Anawim Housing enables people to spend less on housing, preserving resources for other necessities.
Several factors cause the growing need for affordable housing. These include failure of wages to keep pace with the rising housing costs, increased unemployment, the foreclosure crisis, loss of federally subsidized housing inventory and the deteriorating quality of many units in the private market. These trends are expected to continue.
Anawim Housing has contributed significantly to meeting our communities' housing needs and will continue to do so in the next three years and beyond. By the end of 2011 the number of units owned or managed by Anawim Housing will have nearly doubled in just four years from 161 units in 2007 to 307 units. This does not include the steady growth of program managed units in programs such as Shelter Plus Care and Rapid Re-Housing that account for more than 170 additional units.
Anawim Housing uses revenue generating strategies as well as private contributions and grants to achieve its mission. Property development and management are expected to generate revenue that, augmented by fundraising efforts, finances our family services, asset management responsibilities and general operations.
Property development, property management, family services, fund development and administration are expected to function as a team to support success.
Success in Anawim Housing is a combination of the following elements:
- Calibrated growth that enables financial sustainability and contributes to meeting the community's affordable housing needs.
- Tenant stability and advancement.
- Communities that are more vibrant because of the presence of Anawim Housing properties.
- All parts of the organization are aligned to deliver high quality service to external stakeholders as well as internal constituents.
