Anawim Housing Receives Birthday Present for 25th Anniversary
Des Moines, Iowa, May 4, 2012 — In the midst of its 25th anniversary, Anawim Housing received tax credits to develop a new housing project from the Iowa Finance Authority. Receiving the highest scoring application state wide, this allows Anawim to move forward with the McKinley Crest project that has been in the planning stage for nearly a year.
McKinley Crest, located near the intersection of McKinley Ave and Fleur Dr., will be a 60 unit development, with 24 townhomes and a 36 unit multi-family building. The units will range from one bedrooms to four bedrooms and serve a population that earns 40% -60% of the Area Median Income. Construction on this new project will begin this fall.
“We are very pleased to be awarded this tax credit project,” said Russ Frazier, Anawim Housing President. “McKinley Crest will allow Anawim to serve an area of the community that has long had a need for affordable rental housing.”
Anawim Housing was also selected as the proposed Supportive Service Provider for three other projects and partnering with a local company on one other awarded project. Collaborating with other organizations provides Anawim with the opportunity to help even more families find safety and stability.
Anawim is waiting to hear about funding opportunities on two other projects: Legacy Park and McKinley Crest Phase II. These projects will continue to allow Anawim to provide safe and affordable housing for the Des Moines Community.
