A Note from the President, Summer 2024
With our annual report coming up Anawim President Cynthia Latcham prepared a letter to update the community on our achievements from the last year and goals for our upcoming one. Below we’ve included the highlights so that our wider community can read about it as well!
We have been able to improve our service delivery model to best provide for the needs of current and future tenants.
We have updated our tenant selection plan to be more inclusive for potential renters.
We have continued to advocate for issues facing those in our community experiencing homelessness.
Latcham was also able to meet with former employees and board members who worked alongside Anawim founder Sister Stella Neil, with the aim of reconnecting to our roots as an organization. To quote Latcham directly, “Sister Stella believed wholeheartedly in the inherent dignity of the individual and their right to safe and affordable housing. She believed in investing in people and supporting them to become the best version of themselves. She was a fierce advocate for people who had faced unbearable adversity and was known to be spicy in her pursuit of justice for people in systems of inequity.”
The letter also touched on our Monarch Apartment project, which will be opening late this year to serve 40 individuals or couples leaving homelessness. The Monarch project stands as a testament to our commitment to fostering partnerships and engaging with the community to provide sustainable solutions, as always centering our goal of offering stability and dignity to those in need.
In closing we at Anawim would like to thank you, our wider community, for your continued support. As Latcham elegantly put it, “Your support, whether through time, resources, or advocacy, has been invaluable. Together, we are making a difference in the lives of many…”
Thank you again from all of us at Anawim Housing.
