Our Story

Since 1987, Anawim Housing has been building homes, hope and community. From our start as a vision of Sister Stella Neill, Anawim Housing has become a local leader in affordable housing and is the largest provider of Permanent Supportive Housing in the state of Iowa. Anawim works tirelessly to develop stable housing and strengthen people and communities.

At Anawim we work to ensure the most vulnerable always have a safe place to call home, and are committed to ending homelessness. Anawim Housing provides over 390 individuals who have experienced homelessness with permanent supportive housing. Individuals in our programs come us from long-term homelessness and live with a qualifying disability: mental illness, substance use disorder, physical disability, diagnosis of HIV/AIDS, or are fleeing domestic violence.

Anawim is a well-established leader in affordable housing development and management. We are sought out by public entities, community organizations, faith communities, and for-profit, and non-profit owners to provide services. Our areas of expertise include:
