Slumberland’s 40 Winks Foundation Donates Beds to Anawim Families

Some of the families that Anawim Housing serves come to us with practically nothing but the clothes on their back. For those families, everyday items, such as a bed to sleep on, can seem more of a luxury rather than a basic necessity. On December 12th, several Anawim Housing families were gifted beds for their children that did not have them before. Slumberland's 40 Winks Foundation "Making Homes for the Holidays" graciously donated brand new twin size children's beds to families in need with Anawim Housing and other Des Moines organizations. Volunteers and donors met at Slumberland's East Euclid location to load up the 50+ beds, bed frames, mattresses, and quilts and set out to make the many deliveries. Because of this effort, an Anawim single-mother tenant's 4 young children were each given their very own twin bed! Since 1993, Slumberland has been donating beds through their 40 Winks Foundation, and Anawim extends a very heartfelt thank you to them and the many volunteers that helped to provide a basic necessity to our families which means their children can now receive a full and healthy night's sleep.. which in fact isn't so basic after all. It's wonderful.

Slumberland Furniture created the 40 Winks Foundation. With its name embedded in an old English expression for just the right amount of sleep, the 40 Winks Foundation seeks to provide mattresses and beds to children and families lacking these resources to help them attain one of the foundation blocks of life -- a full and healthy night's sleep.
